In the wake of a weekend smog alert that advised citizens to remain indoors, a Toronto garbage strike is likely, says the president of the union that represents the city's outside workers.

In the event of a strike, beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, only Etobicoke and York would get service. In the rest of the city, only apartment buildings would be served. In first week, residents would be asked to double-bag garbage and store it. Six city transfer stations would be open for garbage and six temporary locations (including west-end Sunnyside beach) would take garbage.
